Harbour Bridge repair cranes stuck in storage since late 2024
Two specialist German cranes meant to maintain Sydney Harbour Bridge have sat unused in storage near Blacktown since late 2024. Transport NSW inspected them twice in Germany before they arrived, but installation remains stalled.
The cranes were built to replace units removed from the bridge in 2021. Transport NSW officials flew to Germany twice in 2024 to inspect them and watch trial set-ups.
But the cranes have not been installed. The delay puts pressure on major maintenance work, including painting, before the bridge's centenary in 2032.
Roads Minister Jenny Aitchison said the equipment needs significant engineering and installation work.
