Cottesloe beach faces rising seas as town launches protection plan
Cottesloe will establish a coastal protection steering group to defend its 4km coastline from erosion and climate change.
Cottesloe's 4-kilometre coastline is home to some of Perth's most popular beaches. The coast faces serious threats from rising sea levels, sand erosion and flooding.
The town voted to create a coastal management and implementation plan steering group. The state provided $20,000 in co-funding for this group.
The group will study findings from a coastal hazard risk management plan adopted in February. This plan received $100,000 in state co-funding.
These findings will identify priority actions, costs and long-term plans for the next two years. The aim is to protect the shoreline from erosion, storm flooding and climate change.
The steering group will include at least two town officers and one community representative. This ensures local knowledge shapes decisions.
Lyle Banks and Richard McManus were appointed as community representatives. They already serve on the hazard management group.
