A developer collapse in western Sydney has stranded hundreds of residents in traffic chaos. Bathla, which collapsed four weeks ago, had agreed to repair Edmund Street as part of council approval for a housing project.
Edmund Street, one of the main exits from the Grantham Farm estate, has been closed since late last year and work had stopped before Bathla collapsed. Residents now queue up to 250 metres just to leave their suburb.
The contractor, owed $1.27 million by Bathla, walked off the job unpaid. Four schools nearby with about 4,000 students are affected, as parents avoid letting children walk to school due to unsafe crossing conditions.
