Fire destroys about 60 percent of Bay Waters Hotel in Batemans Bay

About 60 percent of the former Bay Waters Hotel in Batemans Bay was destroyed in an overnight fire on October 5.

Fire and Rescue NSW responded with about eight units to the derelict motel on Old Punt Road in North Batemans Bay around 9:15pm. NSW Rural Fire Service also assisted.

Firefighters took a defensive position and checked inside for anyone trapped. Part of the building's roof collapsed as the fire burned.

Police established a crime scene and began investigating the cause. Scene of crime officers and fire investigators were expected to examine the site in daylight.

The property was purchased by the NSW Government for $4 million in 2018 and had previously housed about 20 homeless people.
