Bendigo faces 10-hour mobile blackouts for Telstra network upgrade
Telstra will shut down a Bendigo base station for seven days starting October 10 for network upgrades.
A base station on Fitzgibbon Road near Strathfieldsaye will go offline for planned upgrades starting Saturday, October 10. The shutdown will hit Eppalock, Axedale, Longlea, Axe Creek and parts of Strathfieldsaye.
Telstra says the work will boost 4G and 5G speed and cut congestion. During each shutdown, phones can still reach triple zero through other networks.
Emergency 'camp on' takes over if the first call doesn't connect within about five seconds. Some medical devices and some EFTPOS terminals may also be affected.
Wi-Fi Calling lets Telstra customers stay connected during outages.
