Australia's spring heat spikes to hottest levels in years this weekend
Hot air from Australia's north-west will bring record temperatures this weekend before polar air returns.
Australia's spring weather is flipping again. After a cold blast from Antarctica dropped temperatures across the south-east, hot air from the Pilbara is now moving south.
Western Australia saw the heat first, then it will reach western South Australia on Saturday and eastern Australia on Sunday. Sydney will peak at 28C in the city but 30 to 34C in western suburbs.
For some towns and cities like Mildura and Griffith, maximums should be the highest in years for September. Just as quickly as it arrives, another polar air mass will erase the heat by Monday, dropping temperatures 10 to 15 degrees in 24 hours.
