Healy backs De Goey to stay as Collingwood eyes premiership
Gerard Healy says trading De Goey would be foolish if Collingwood wants another premiership as it pursues Lachie Neale.
Collingwood's list boss hinted this week that Jordan De Goey could leave the club, but Brownlow medallist Gerard Healy says it makes no sense to move him if the Magpies are chasing another premiership.
De Goey is contracted through 2027 but wants a longer-term deal, possibly worth $1.2 million over three years. At 30, he played 22 games in 2026 after injury-plagued seasons, averaging 21.4 disposals and 4.8 marks per game.
Healy argues that pairing De Goey's forward presence with new recruit Lachie Neale's midfield craft would give Collingwood the clearance and ground-ball advantage they need. Club officials say nothing will happen this trade period but are keeping the door open.

Why it mattersA De Goey trade could derail Collingwood's premiership window; Neale costs $900,000 a year with no pick required, so the club may struggle to afford both.
